Property Description

The Pelican in Her Piety has been serving customers in Ogmore-by-Sea for almost 300 years. Situated in a beautiful rural setting opposite the grade 1 listed Ogmore Castle, the pub caters for locals and visitors alike. The pub has built an excellent reputation over the years for producing premium quality food and fine ales and wine. The bar trade benefits from ramblers and dog walkers throughout the winter and tourists and beach combers in the summer. In addition, the pub offers a very high-quality menu alongside excellent service to attract a more discerning customer all year round and during the summer, demand is very high for family dining from tourists. The Pelican in Her Piety has a wonderful heritage and has built a great reputation and loyal following over the years, and we are therefore looking for an innovative publican who can continue to develop the offerings with the customers at the forefront of their decision.

Private Accommodation: Three-bedroom private accommodation decorated to a high standard throughout.

Trading Style

Indoor trading area

Two main entrances lead into the central bar at the heart of the Pelican. With flagstone floors and roaring open fire, the bar is a warm and enjoyable place to enjoy a pint of ale from the oak clad servery. To the left is a dining area for around 26 covers with timber beamed ceilings, plus side access to the car park. The restaurant is to the right of the bar with a mix of wood and parquet flooring and an attractive fireplace currently arranged for around 32 covers. The operation is supported by a well-proportioned recently refurbished trade kitchen, located behind the bar which benefits from separate wash-up and preparation areas and access to the rear yard. In addition, the pub currently offers excellent quality live entertainment supplied by local musicians.

Outdoor trading area

A handsome and attractive stone building, the Pelican occupies a large footprint and with its symmetrical appearance and sash windows, boasting great kerb appeal. The ample car park is to the immediate left of the pub and has space for around 25 vehicles. Also, to the left is a tasteful smoking shelter built with wooden beams that are in-keeping with the rest of the property. The patio beer garden is furnished with picnic tables and looks out over the confluence of the Rivers Ewenny and Ogmore and to the ruins of the castle below.

Regional Manager Comments

I have worked in the pub industry for over 30 years in the South Wales area. At the Pelican, I am looking for a hospitality professional with a good understanding of current catering trends to maximise the opportunity at this pub. I believe that the right publican will continue to build on an already strong reputation and take the pub to new heights.
