Property Description

The Crown is a small local community site in the village of Kempsey. With three other competitors on the main road through the village this site focus must be on sports, sports teams and being the hub for the local area. The right publican must involve themselves in the local village to make this the hub of the community. As the largest village in the country dating back to Roman Times on the banks of the River Severn this pub can serve host to locals and visitors alike and welcome all new and old customers. Kempsey has recently had a number of new development housing into the village and the pub should be catering for them as well as older village population. Although the pub is well-kept both internally and externally, Stonegate have approved a refurbishment plan to add an improved external drinking area and a new bar in the function room to aid the use of this space, and a new back bar in the main pub.

Private Accommodation: The private living accommodation comprises of two double bedrooms and one single bedroom. This good-sized accommodation would suit a family and also boasts a lounge and kitchen all across the top floor of the pub.

Trading Style

Indoor trading area

The pub comprises one bar which is the main trading area and can seat 20 customers. There is a small room off the left of the bar, which can be used for pool or community meetings, and can accommodate a further 10 customers seated or more for meetings. There is a separate skittle alley at the side of the pub, which can accommodate local teams but can also be utilised for small functions, seating up to 30 people. There is currently a planned investment to include a bar within the function room to increase trade. The pub is decorated in a traditional style with matching fixtures and fittings. There are several wall mounted television screens throughout the pub for sports viewing.

Outdoor trading area

To the side of the pub is a patio beer garden which is partially covered. There are a handful of picnic style benches to seat around 16 customers, and at the bottom of the car park is second beer garden with space for further five benches. The car park is a good size for the pub with space for 15 vehicles. In addition to the internal investment, Stonegate have approved further investment to refurbish the outdoor area and creating the perfect destination for the warmer months.

Regional Manager Comments

The Crown Inn is a superb village local and should be the hub of the community. A wet-led sports offer that can capitalise on the adjacent skittle alley and local sports teams will really embrace everyone that lives in the village. The pub is suitable for a new publican looking to add their touch to the Crown Inn or an experienced publican wanting to demonstrate how a village pub can be run. With investment planned for the external drinking area and a new bar in the function room the right publican can further establish themselves within the community.
