Area Operations Manager - Great Locals (West Midlands)

12 Month Fixed Term Contract

We are excited to be recruiting for a people focused ‘pub’ Area Operations Manager. The role sits within our high performing Central team, covering pubs on a franchise styled Retail agreement format. Our mission is to deliver a compelling guest experience by helping our “Self Employed Pub Partners” get the best out of their businesses.

Great Locals pubs sit within the community, incorporating a variety of high turnover food hubs to those specialising in entertainment or sport, as well as the traditional wet led local we all know and love. This broad spectrum of pubs guarantees excitement and inspires those with an entrepreneurial flair. The role comes with the freedom for you to make a difference with the support and structure of an established PLC. The variety which comes from managing food, sport and entertainment businesses is exciting but will require those that can adapt and change to multiple tasks. In addition, an individual that can recruit the best and motivate through first class coaching and development skills.

You will have full P&L responsibility for supporting a team of Pub Partners and helping them to grow their businesses within the Marston’s brand. You will work closely with our recruitment, marketing, finance, and property teams to ensure we have pubs we can be proud of.

Ideally you will share the same enthusiasm, energy and pride in running successful pubs with amazing standards, as we do. You will be commercially focused, bold and not be frightened to take an educated risk.

In this role you’ll be responsible for 20 sites within the West Midlands, which spans Wolverhampton, West Bromwich, Newport and Shifnal. This patch is very stable and is currently in sales and profit growth. Whilst initially this a fixed term ‘maternity cover’ contract, these openings give you to chance to showcase your skills and could lead to a longer-term appointment. Exciting opportunities like this one really don’t crop up too often, therefore don’t delay with your application.


Key Attributes & Responsibilities:

  • Full P&L responsibility, with a focus on driving sales and delivering a great guest experience
  • Real passion for people and helping your retailers grow their businesses
  • Provide business advice in a non-managed capacity, being unafraid to tackle challenging situations and conversations.
  • Achieving all KPIs both financial and people focused
  • Extremely high standards to create pubs to be proud of
  • Working closely with head office departments with a one team mentality
  • Deliver capital investments into our sites achieving an industry leading return

The Ideal Candidate:

  • You will have a couple years of experience as an Area Manager, holding and growing a patch
  • Must have experience in the hospitality industry to understand the environment
  • Be able to demonstrate enviable P&L success
  • Have proven success stories in developing people
  • Strong drive to motivate and engage others and celebrate team successes
  • Ability to dream big by driving and maximising commercial opportunities
  • Someone who lives in or near the locations above, with a full UK driving licence
